In Ophir early that morning Mitch Seavey was cutting hay for his dogs when he cut his fingers on his hand. Nordman determined that the injury was severe enough to warrant the decision . The decision was made at 4:11 am not to continue the race . Seavey was in 5th position when the incident occurred.
